BREEAM 'Excellent' Rating Must Be Met on New College Development

Sure Group has been chosen by Anwyl Construction to provide full mechanical engineering services for a new build Learning Centre, at the Welsh College of Horticulture, Northop.

The build requires that BREEAM measures are met - BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. These are tools that assess the environmental impact of a development in a number of areas according to performance, and then award the development an overall rating. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de-facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. The Lead Contractor responsible for delivering the Learning Centre is Anwyl Construction. Sure Group will deliver the mechanical engineering services.

Mike Lockett, is the Sure Group Contract Manager. When asked about the project, Mike said "Due to the significant energy requirements and physical constraints, it is a challenge to secure a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating. We are however totally committed to supporting the Team at Anwyl Construction in delivering an exemplar of best practice environmental design. In order to do so, we will use cutting edge low energy technologies. We are excited by the project as it is satisfying to work with clients committed to low energy."

Simon Rose is the Project Manager from Anwyl Construction responsible for the build. When asked about the development Simon said "Meeting the challenges involved in delivering a BREEAM Excellent building project relies heavily on having the correct team established from Client level through to Subcontractors. All will play their part in achieving the required scores and non more so than Sure Group due to the heavy score weighting on Mechanical Services.
