Megan Pendlebury joins the Sure Group Engineer Team to work alongside Sister Danielle and Dad Neil
Mon, September 5th, 2011
Megan is the latest Pendlebury family member to join Sure Group. Dad Neil is a Senior Engineer and has been with the Company for over 10 years, and eldest daughter Danielle (age 20) joined Sure Group as an apprentice in 2007, and qualified as a Domestic Gas Engineer in July 2011. Megan has just started her apprenticeship and is attending Greater Manchester Skills Centre, Trafford Park.
Neil said of his daughters’ “I am really proud of both my girls, and pleased that they have decided to follow in my footsteps and become fully qualified engineers, It is tough for young people to get jobs these days, so to see Danielle and Megan focused on their careers is great.”
Danielle joined Sure Maintenance in September 2007 from leaving school, she has successfully completed a three year apprenticeship during which time she also attended North Trafford College and Manchester Skill Solutions where she was awarded a NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Complex Domestic Natural Gas Installation and Maintenance, further to this she also successfully completed an Advanced Apprenticeship Framework.
Laurence Coatsworth, Contract Manager, Sure Group when asked about Danielle said “Her infectious enthusiasm for work and her bubbly personality make her popular and well liked with her fellow engineers and customers alike. This is demonstrated by the amount of compliments Sure Group receive on a regular basis from customers impressed by her skills and caring nature.”
Danielle said “I thoroughly enjoy working in the predominantly male gas industry, although at first I found it slightly daunting. As the only girl on my course at North Trafford College, fellow male apprentices would place bets amongst themselves as to whether I would last the course. I gained immense satisfaction from helping them finish tasks in the workshop, which I had completed and could see they were struggling, no bets were placed after that!.
Aspects of the job can be mentally and physically challenging and the hours are long, but the only thing I find more rewarding is shopping for shoes! I would encourage any girls about to leave school or college to think seriously about a career in the gas industry, as the work is varied and interesting, and I meet with lots of customers on a daily basis.”
