Wates Living Space Deliver on Sandwell Decent Homes Programme Supported by the Sure Group.

Sandwell Homes is managing one of the largest Decent Homes programmes in the country with a projected spend of £425m by the time it completes in 2012. Sandwell's Council owned stock equates to over 29,000 properties.

Sandwell Homes has been very successful in meeting its planned programme of delivery. They put their success down to strong partnerships that have been forged with the tenants and residents of Sandwell, as well as with their construction partners including Wates Living Space.

Wates Living Space has been working in partnership with the Sure Group and has sub contracted new central heating installations to approximately 5700 properties to F. J. Jones Part of the Sure Group based in the Midlands. The contract is for a 5-year period.

The relationship between Wates Living Space and F. J. Jones is managed by Steve Morgan, Business Manager, Wates Living Space. When asked about the relationship Steve said "From the outset, our Sandwell Homes project has witnessed a very intense programme along with a unique set of challenges. It has been very rewarding and reassuring to work with a supplier who has fully embraced the aspirations of Wates Living Space and, pertinently, those of our Client Sandwell Homes."

The Government has set a target to ensure that all council housing meets standards of decency by 2010. To be defined as 'decent', a home must meet each of the following criteria:

It must meet the current statutory minimum standard for housing
It must be in a reasonable state of repair
It must have reasonably modern facilities and services
It must have both effective insulation and efficient heating

Hygienic Air = Healthy Home Exhaust Air Heat Pump Ventilation on New Build

Wates Living Space has chosen Sure Group as the Preferred Mechanical Partner on Trafford Housing Trust's New Development - Ripon Crescent. This is the first new build project for Trafford Housing Trust, which will be delivered with key partner Wates Living Space. The multi-million pound Ripon Crescent development will see 45 new affordable homes delivered in Trafford.

Sure Group will undertake the mechanical installations which includes ventilation, heating, plumbing and drainage. 'Exhaust Air Heat Pumps Ventilation' will be utilised as much as possible on the build. Exhaust air heat pumps facilitate heat recovery and supply the energy recovered from exhaust air for the domestic hot water and even the heating. Not only does energy recovery ensure a healthy and comfortable form of heating, it also produces considerable savings in terms of heat energy, along with CO2 emissions.

Paul Cornes is Sure Group's Operations Director. When asked about the project Paul said "We are delighted to be chosen by Wates Living Space to deliver Mechanical services to the Ripon Crescent Development. Wates are a market leader in the construction of energy efficient homes, and we are pleased to be able to play our part by installing 'Exhaust Air Heat Pumps Ventilation'. This is relatively new technology - the controlled domestic ventilation system with heat recovery via a heat pump is combined with heating the domestic hot water and radiator water. It is a complete system to replace both the conventional gas condensing boiler, hot water tank and the separate heat recovery ventilation system."

Steve Darwin is the Wates Project Manager responsible for the build. Steve said "We are pleased to be working with Sure group as the project has a demanding schedule with some complicated installation which requires good communication and teamwork between all parties."

Sure Group Glad to Support the Community and Charitable Work of Wates Living Space Scotland

Wates Living Space takes its community responsibilities very seriously and the Sure Group are pleased to support Wates with their efforts.

Directors of Sure where delighted to be asked recently to support Wates by donating a cash sum of £7,500 to provide a new play area as part of a River Clyde Homes project, and donating two prizes of an 'Ultimate Driving Experience' worth £220 at Knockhill Racing Circuit towards the Wates Living Space Contribution to the Marie Curie Big Build Appeal and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sure appointed M&E provider New Appointments for 800 apartments in Scotland

Wates Living Space are working under a framework agreement with River Clyde Homes to refurbish ten tower blocks of apartments. Sure Group has been appointed Sub-Contractor to design, install and commission upgraded mechanical and electrical services. The refurbishment to the services includes installation of new lighting to landlord's areas, installation of emergency lighting, renewing and upgrading of ventilation systems and upgrading of water distribution systems.

River Clyde Homes have made a considerable investment in this refurbishment programme to around 800 apartments. Three tower blocks have been completed and numerous tenants have commented upon the improvements to environmental conditions. Work is continuing on the remaining blocks during tenant occupation and the whole team endeavour to minimise any disruption.

Overseeing the work is Wates Living Space Site Manager Stephen Blackwood, together with Project Surveyor Rebecca Beauchette. Alistair Patterson is the Regional Manager for Sure Group, Scotland. Alistair is overseeing the contract - when asked about it's progress he said "The project is going really well. Key to it's success, is the positive and open relationship that we have with the Wates Living Space Team. Regular communication with Steve and Rebecca ensures that we can react quickly to our clients and residents needs."
